Please note that adjusting Plex settings for Chromecast requires using a smartphone, tablet, or computer as a remote control since Chromecast doesn’t have a native interface for Plex.
Step 1: Install and Launch the Plex App Before you can change the playback settings, you need to have the Plex app installed on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. If you haven’t done so already, download and install the Plex app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android), or access the Plex Web App on your computer.
Step 2: Sign in to Your Plex Account If you’re not signed in to your Plex account, do so now. Enter your Plex account credentials or sign up for a new account if you haven’t already.
Step 3: Connect to Your Chromecast Device
- Ensure your Chromecast and the device with the Plex app are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Launch the Plex app and tap on the “cast” icon (located at the top-right corner for Android, and bottom-right for iOS).
- Select your Chromecast device from the list of available devices.
Step 4: Change Video Quality Settings
- Start playing any video in the Plex app, which will then be cast to your Chromecast.
- Tap on the “Settings” icon (represented by a gear) in the playback control bar.
- Adjust the “Streaming Quality” slider to your desired setting. Moving it to the right will increase the quality, while moving it to the left will decrease the quality. Choose a higher setting for better video quality, but be mindful of your network connection’s speed and stability.
Step 5: Adjust Audio Settings
- While playing a video, tap on the “Audio and Subtitles” icon (represented by a speech bubble) in the playback control bar.
- In the “Audio” section, you can select the audio track and language (if multiple options are available). Choosing “Original” will play the original audio format without transcoding, which can result in better audio quality.
Step 6: Customize Subtitle Settings
- In the “Audio and Subtitles” menu, navigate to the “Subtitles” section.
- Here, you can select your preferred subtitle language and enable or disable subtitles. If multiple subtitle options are available, choose the one that suits your needs.
Step 7: Save Your Changes Once you’ve made your desired adjustments, simply tap outside of the settings menu or close it. Your changes will be saved automatically, and you can now enjoy your Plex content with your customized playback settings.
