Privacy Policy

Cygan Labs is Jacob Cygan’s personal tech site: writing, project notes, Plex help, self-hosting guides, and a handful of small browser-side tools. This page explains what information may be collected when you visit, what it is used for, and which third-party services may be involved.

The goal here is straightforward: clear information, no overpromising, and no unnecessary legal fog. Cygan Labs tries to describe privacy practices in plain English while recognizing that modern websites rely on a mix of hosting, security, analytics, advertising, and publishing tools.

The short version

  • Cygan Labs collects normal website data needed to run, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the site.
  • The site uses WordPress, hosting/caching/security infrastructure, Google services such as Site Kit/AdSense, and other plugins or service providers.
  • Some public tools on the site run in your browser and are not intentionally designed to submit your pasted text or form answers back to Cygan Labs.
  • If you email Cygan Labs, the information you send is used to read and respond to that message.
  • Cygan Labs does not sell personal information.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, Cygan Labs may collect limited technical information automatically when you visit, including:

  • IP address, browser, device, operating system, and approximate technical environment
  • pages visited, referring links, timestamps, and basic usage patterns
  • server logs, security events, cache/performance data, and error information
  • cookie or similar identifier data from site features, analytics, advertising, or security tools

This data is used to keep the site working, understand which pages are useful, diagnose breakage, reduce spam or abuse, and make the site easier to maintain. The emphasis is on practical operation: reliable pages, safer systems, and fewer mysteries when something breaks.

Cookies, ads, analytics, and measurement

Cygan Labs may use cookies or similar technologies for normal site functionality, security, performance, analytics, and advertising.

The site currently uses Google-related services through WordPress tooling such as Site Kit and Google AdSense. Google and advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to measure traffic, personalize or limit ads, prevent fraud, and report performance in line with their own policies and your privacy choices.

You can limit or block cookies through your browser settings, privacy extensions, or platform-level ad/privacy controls. Some site features may behave differently when cookies, ads, analytics, or scripts are blocked.

Public tools on Cygan Labs

Some Cygan Labs pages include simple in-page tools — for example Markdown cleanup, link cleanup, backup/maintenance checklists, or heading-outline checks. Those tools are designed to run locally in your browser unless the page says otherwise.

That means the tool logic is not intentionally built to submit your pasted text, URLs, or checklist answers to Cygan Labs, WordPress, an AI service, or a separate tool server. Normal site scripts may still load around those pages, including WordPress, security, analytics, advertising, caching, or performance scripts.

Practical rule: do not paste secrets into public web tools. Avoid passwords, API keys, private keys, tokens, recovery codes, student data, medical data, financial data, or anything else that belongs in a controlled system.

Contact and email

If you contact Cygan Labs by email or through a contact method listed on the site, the information you send may include your name, email address, message content, attachments, and normal email metadata.

That information is used to read, respond to, organize, and maintain normal correspondence. Email is not a secure vault, so please do not send passwords, private keys, sensitive account details, or confidential information unless there is a clear reason and a safer channel has been agreed on first.

Third-party services and infrastructure

Cygan Labs runs on WordPress and uses hosting, caching, performance, security, analytics, advertising, email-delivery, and SEO-related tools or plugins. Depending on the page or feature, third parties may process limited technical or usage data needed to provide those services.

Examples may include:

  • WordPress and WordPress plugins
  • hosting, CDN, cache, performance, and security providers
  • Google services such as Site Kit, analytics/measurement, and AdSense
  • spam or bot-protection tools such as Cloudflare Turnstile where enabled
  • email delivery and mailbox providers
  • embedded media, outbound project links, or external services linked from Cygan Labs

Those services operate under their own privacy policies and terms. If you leave Cygan Labs for another site or service, that destination’s privacy practices apply there, so it is worth reviewing them when the context matters.

How information is used

Information collected through Cygan Labs may be used to:

  • operate, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the website
  • measure traffic, performance, and which content is actually useful
  • prevent spam, abuse, fraud, scraping, or security problems
  • respond to messages, corrections, or technical-help requests
  • manage advertising, analytics, and site-quality signals
  • comply with legal obligations when required

Data sharing

Cygan Labs does not sell personal information.

Limited information may be shared with service providers when necessary to host, secure, analyze, advertise on, maintain, or operate the site. Information may also be disclosed if required by law, to protect the site from abuse, or to respond to legitimate security, legal, or operational needs.

Your choices

  • Use browser settings or privacy tools to block or limit cookies, trackers, and scripts.
  • Do not use optional features, forms, embeds, or external links if you do not want those providers involved.
  • Do not paste sensitive information into public tools on the site.
  • Email [email protected] with privacy-related questions or correction requests.
