Useful tools for small digital chores

A practical workbench for QR codes, image metadata, messy PDFs, file names, classroom groups, password phrases, and self-hosting reality checks.

The idea is simple: open a tool, finish the job, and leave with the thing you came for. No account wall, no fake platform, and no unnecessary detour around one useful function.

Quick QR codes without a detour

SimpleQR exists because making a QR code should be direct: paste the link, generate the square, download it, and move on. No dashboard, no tracking redirect, and no account requirement.

It is useful for classroom links, event signs, guest instructions, printed handouts, or any moment where a paper sign needs to point people to the right place.

  • No signup. Click and generate.
  • No tracking redirects. The code points directly to your destination.
  • Private. All QR processing happens right in your own browser.

Start here

  • A quick QR code for a link
  • A printable sign or handout
  • A link that does not track people

Status: Live, free, and intentionally simple.

Pick the job in front of you

Some problems do not need a grand theory. Sometimes you just need to rename files, check a link, clean up a draft, remove photo metadata, or sanity-check a small piece of infrastructure.

Clean up files & docs

For the small cleanup jobs before something gets shared. These run locally in your browser — your files are never uploaded to CyganLabs.

  • Image Privacy Cleaner — Strip hidden GPS and metadata from photos before sharing.
  • PDF Page Picker — Extract, reorder, rotate, or merge PDF pages entirely in your browser.
  • Filename Cleaner — Reformat messy file names locally to prepare for bulk renames.

Safe links & passwords

Helpers for URLs, redirects, and password phrases. When a browser cannot do the whole job alone, server-assisted tools stay narrow and explain what they check.

  • Link Cleaner — Strip tracking IDs and UTM junk from a URL before you paste it.
  • Redirect Inspector — See every stop on a redirect chain before you open the final link.
  • Password Phrases — Generate strong, memorable passwords locally with modern crypto.

Infrastructure checks

Quick checks for the services and domains you run, with plain-English results instead of a wall of cryptic error codes.

Writing & classroom helpers

Small helpers for school and writing work that should not require an account, an upsell, or a monthly subscription.

  • Markdown Cleaner — Fix rough edges in your clipboard and clean up pasted drafts.
  • Outline Checker — Catch skipped heading levels and structure gaps before you publish.
  • Group Maker — Turn a roster into pairs or rotations without uploading student names.

Hosted & playful utilities

  • CyberChef — A hosted data workbench for encoding, decoding, and transforms.
  • ShittyQR — A joke about web bloat that still produces useful QR codes.

SimpleQR FAQ

Is this really free?

Yes. SimpleQR is a free QR generator for URLs and text. There is no account signup or pro tier, and the destination URL is never hidden behind a redirect.

Does it track my scans?

No. SimpleQR builds the code directly for the link you provide. I do not see who scans it, when they scan it, or where they go. That stays between the scanner and the destination.

The workbench standard

  • One job per tool. If a tool starts drifting into a platform, it gets simplified or removed.
  • Browser-side first. Your data stays on your machine whenever technically possible.
  • No marketing dashboards. If the useful interface is a box and a button, it can stay a box and a button.
  • Observable tools. When a tool needs to reach out to a server, the dedicated tool page explains why.

When you are done at the workbench, go back to Start Here, browse the longer-form Projects & Experiments, or head to the Self-Hosting hub if your own setup needs attention.
