Classroom Group Maker
Paste a class list, pick the kind of groups you want, and get a copy/print-friendly group list without uploading student names.
Status: Live · Processing: local/browser-side only. The normal path is simple: paste names, choose partners/groups/rotations, click Make groups.
This is built for teachers who need usable groups now, not a classroom platform, a login, or an ad-stuffed “free” tool that somehow needs your roster and your soul. The advanced options are there when you need them, but the main job stays obvious.
Privacy note: student names stay in your browser. The grouping tool does not intentionally upload roster data to CyganLabs. If you use the save button, the roster is saved only on this device/browser and can be removed with Forget saved roster. Normal CyganLabs page infrastructure may still load site assets, analytics, or ads; the local-processing claim is about the roster text you put into the tool.
Teacher judgment still wins: this makes random groups faster. It does not know accommodations, conflicts, safety concerns, or who absolutely should not be partners today.
Leftovers are balanced automatically so you do not get one lonely student unless the numbers force it.
Optional: avoid repeat partners from last time
Paste one old group per line, separated by commas. The tool will try to avoid putting those same pairs together again.
Optional: save roster and advanced cleanup
Most teachers can ignore this section. It is here for repeated use, messy pasted lists, and repeatable results.
Use the same word with the same list/settings to get the same groups again.

Quick start
- Paste one student name per line.
- Pick Partners, Groups of 3, Groups of 4, or choose your own group size/count.
- Click Make groups. If you do not like the first mix, click Try another mix.
- Use Copy groups for slides, email, Canvas, Google Classroom, or a doc. Use Print groups for paper.
Teacher-friendly features
- One-name-per-line roster paste.
- Quick buttons for common choices: partners, groups of 3, groups of 4, four groups, and station rounds.
- Balanced leftovers so the numbers do not create one weird orphan group unless unavoidable.
- Optional previous-group avoidance when you want to reduce repeat partners.
- Optional browser-only roster save for repeated use on the same device.
- Copy, print, text download, or CSV export.
What it does not do
- It does not upload rosters, create accounts, or sync names across devices.
- It does not know student accommodations, conflicts, behavior history, or classroom dynamics.
- It does not guarantee zero repeated pairs if the roster and settings make that impossible.
- It does not replace a seating chart tool. This makes groups; it does not design the room.
Questions
Are student names uploaded?
No. The grouping logic runs locally in your browser. The page does not intentionally send roster names to CyganLabs, WordPress, or an AI service.
Can I save a roster?
Yes, but only when you explicitly click “Save roster to this browser.” That uses your browser’s local storage. It does not create a CyganLabs account, sync to another device, or store the roster on the site.
How does previous-group avoidance work?
Paste one previous group per line, with names separated by commas. The tool treats every pair inside those groups as a pairing to avoid, then tries multiple shuffles and keeps the lowest-repeat result. If the roster is small or the constraints are tight, some repeats may remain. Math remains rude.
Is the grouping truly random?
With no repeatable shuffle word, the tool uses the browser’s crypto randomness when available. If you enter a word in advanced options, the result becomes repeatable for the same roster and settings.
